Expert 401k Guidance

Do you have a 401k plan?

Do you have any idea what to DO with it?

Or, have you implemented certain 401k ideas you've run across elsewhere, and found the advice barely worth utilizing?

Most company 401k plans (or other similar employer-sponsored retirement plans; we'll use '401k' as a catch-all term) simply suggest you allocate your money there in a certain way, among a small, fixed group of funds ( ... or to ALL of them, in fixed percentages), when you initiate the plan.

"Fire it off, and forget it.  Don't mess with it.  In the long run, it'll all work out."

Well, your 401k plan, just like any other investments, should be professionally guided in an ongoing, thoughtful manner.

And yet, the first scenario we've described above is how many, many people do it ... and do it on the advice of other people IN this industry who 'ought' to know better!

Or, alternately:  Some 401k plan participants, for their own reasons, in the grips of a panic, yank all their holdings out of their mutual funds.  Many people did this early in 2009, after the last horrific crumble in the Markets, and have never gotten back into the market.  Well, guess what?  They missed the opportunity to participate in the biggest  Stock Market run-up (March 10th, 2009 to the present) in 34 years!  So, ... what do you imagine happens on the heels of that realization?  Panic Number Two sets in and, realizing they're completely missing that huge run-up, these participants may get back into the Market ... but it could be too late, if conditions in the Markets start to crumble again ... and now, they could be simply adding loss upon loss.  What a sickening situation to have happen to your hard-earned money.

Bottom line:  Human emotions and investing DO NOT mix.  And when it's your own money on the line, you simply will not be able to divorce yourself from your emotions effectively-enough to make good decisions ... sometimes, maybe you will.   But not often.  And certainly not often-enough!

We will strive to do MUCH, much better for you in your 401k ... no matter the plan and no matter how minimal your assets in that plan.
